BCCI Replaces Two National Selectors After Asia Cup Squad Announcement

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a major shake-up in the senior men’s selection committee just days after revealing India’s Asia Cup squad. This decision comes as part of BCCI’s strategy to strengthen the selection process across all formats of cricket.

Big Changes in National Selection Panel

According to recent reports, two members of the senior men’s selection committee will be replaced, while Ajit Agarkar will continue as the chief selector until 2026. The decision to retain Agarkar comes after his successful tenure, which saw India winning major ICC titles.

Eligibility for National Selector Positions

The BCCI has opened applications for two spots in the men’s national selection committee. Interested candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Experience Required:
    • Minimum 7 Test matches, OR
    • 30 First-Class matches, OR
    • 10 ODIs and 20 First-Class matches.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Must have retired from cricket at least 5 years ago.
    • Should not have served on any BCCI committee for a cumulative period of 5 years.

Expected Changes in the Committee

The current panel includes Ajit Agarkar, SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra, and S Sharath. Reports suggest that Pragyan Ojha might replace S Sharath, who is expected to take over as the chief of the junior men’s selection committee.

Ajit Agarkar to Continue Till 2026

Appointed in July 2023, Agarkar has been instrumental in India’s recent cricketing success. Under his leadership:

These achievements have convinced the BCCI to extend his tenure until June 2026.
